Gerda's Equine Rescue (GER) is a Vermont-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit committed to rescuing horses from the unthinkable fate of being slaughter-bound for human consumption. Since its founding in 2005, GER has rescued, rehabilitated, and re-homed over 1,000 horses.
Many of the horses arriving at GER have been left behind now that their work careers are over. Others have medical or behavioral challenges. All are worthy of love and a happy home once healed and ready. Welcoming a new trail partner or pasture mate to your home is an incredible & rewarding experience - check out our herd for more details!
GER relies on people like you! Our team of dedicated volunteers support the staff in every aspect of rescue & farm life. All are welcome - young & old, experienced & not - we have plenty of opportunities for everyone. Contact us to lend a hand.
Our farm needs support every day of the year. Donations of funds, time, supplies, & experience are what make it possible to bail horses from auction, heal their wounds, & find permanent homes. All donations - big or small - are greatly appreciated!
Help provide unwanted, abandoned, & neglected equines with a second chance!
Any gift and any amount is greatly appreciated! Your donation is tax deductible and 100% goes to our horses.

GER has extra blankets for local horse owners that need help providing blankets for winter - no questions asked!
We know there are differing opinions about blanketing, but we are very aware of what it means to have older or compromised horses in VT. We want to help!
Anyone that needs assistance should email gerdasequinerescue@gmail.com with size & blanket weight. Owners must be able to pick up at the rescue; instructions will be sent once we confirm we have what you need.
If you want to donate a CLEAN, UNRIPPED blanket, please also email and we'll send instructions for drop-off.
